Closure Resources - Year 1
Weekly Updates for Parents
These are your weekly updates which tell you what we are covering each week in Literacy and Maths. Hopefully this will help you when thinking about what to cover if you have your children at home. We have also included an overview of the units that would be covered through the whole of the term in other subjects.
Within the separate web page for each week there is a 'master plan' document listed first - This document contains a summary of the work that is taking place during the week at school, and will also be emailed to you on Friday of the week before. Below the weekly plan on the weekly website page will be any supporting documents. These may be worksheets or activities, templates, tests and answer sheets or documents that provide further guidance or reading material.
Further down on this page underneath the weekly update links you can find links to resources categorised by subject area. Some of these may be specifically referenced within the weekly updates, and some of them are more generic resources suitable for your child in a subject or learning area. We may also include fun activities that we have identified that we think are suitable for this age group.
We hope these weekly updates will give you some more guidance as you work with your children at home. If you have any questions or queries, or have difficulty accessing any of the plans or documents then please do contact the teaching team on the email shown below.

Subject Area Resources for children in Year 1
https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/famous-people/zdqdscw History resource – some very good films for this age group.
Children in Years 1 to 6 should already have their Purple Mash login details at home. User account is set up as <first name><surname initial> <year of leaving Year6> so John Smith in Year 5 (therefore leaving our school in 2021) has account name of johns21 .
Key concepts to revisit:
- Addition and subtraction
- Doubling and halving
- Number – counting forward and backward in 2s, 5s, 10s. Number facts like number bonds to 10 and 20.
- Telling the time on an analogue clock, including o’clock and half past
- Money – recognising and ordering coins
- Shape – naming 2D and 3D shapes and recognising their properties (how many sides/edges, vertices/corners)
https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/ - Some really useful worksheets covering a range of Maths topics that can be printed at home.
- It would be great to revisit your child’s previous spellings in their blue books and use these within sentences.
- If you want to work on writing, your child can keep a diary and write about what they are doing and how they are feeling.
- Within English in Term 5, we will be looking at ‘Mr Gumpy’s Outing’ by John Burningham as well as exploring animal riddles.
We have provided extra school reading books. Please read regularly and question your child, using the reading prompt bookmark already given and enjoy sharing favourite stories with them.
https://readingeggs.co.uk/ This site contains some great reading resources and online books. The site offers a few weeks of free access from your computer, or there is an app version available.
Here is a link to our Emmer Green Phonics Teaching website page that describes how we approach phonics teaching in the school with a number of resources and additional website links.
Phonics is important for reading and spelling. We are working on Phase 5 sounds but are continuing to revise Phase 3 and 4 sounds.
Use the phonics mats given out during Parents Evening to support your child with Phonics. There are lots of helpful Youtube videos such as Alphablocks and Mr Thorne that can support with Phonics. If you are unsure on how to say the sounds, there is a useful video on our school website that helps with pronunciation of the individual sounds.
