Welcome to the new 2020 starters

We are very pleased that you are going to be joining our school in September and we look forward to welcoming you into our school community.

Things have changed really quickly for schools, nurseries and families due to COVID-19. We are aiming to do the best we can to make you feel welcome and to ensure the transition from home to school and from nursery to Foundation is as smooth as possible during these uncertain times. We would like to reassure you that we are still planning and organising so that you and your child will be well prepared for when your child starts school.

We recognise that transition is really important and usually we would offer a range of transition events for both parents and children. Unfortunately, we are unable to confirm whether any of our usual transition arrangements will go ahead due to social distancing measures, however we are sharing the resources and contact information that we would usually share with all of our families at a ‘New Starters’ evening.

We are sure that parents have many questions - from practical ones about uniform and the routine of the school day to helping your child settle in with their new teacher. We hope that the PowerPoint presentation below will give you an insight into the life of a Foundation child at Emmer Green and will answer lots of your questions. However, we also want to provide parents with an email contact for any specific queries you may have. Please send any enquiries to newstarters@emmergreen.reading.sch.uk .

We will keep you informed and further details will follow about our transition arrangements as and when school reopens. Please keep an eye on this page for any updates.

Thank you again for choosing Emmer Green Primary School and we look forward to greeting you and your child soon.

Foundation Stage Presentation for New Parents

Foundation Stage Videos

Here you can have a tour of our Foundation classrooms and dedicated outdoors learning and play areas.

Here are some introductions from a few of the staff you will meet during your transition to Emmer Green Primary School.

Mrs Chauhan-Wall is one of our teachers who is now joining the Foundation Stage team - She would like to say a big hello to all of you.

Just like Mrs Chauhan-Wall, we are all really looking forward to meeting the new children who are starting school with us soon.

Here is a book reading from each of our Foundation Stage teachers. We love reading at Emmer Green School, so we hope you really enjoy the stories.

Miss Gilbert would love to read a fun story for you about going to school. This is called "Harry and the Dinosaurs go to School" and it was written by Ian Whybrow.

Miss Hood also has a fun story for you to listen to. It is called "Winnie in Winter" and it was written by Valerie Thomas.

Mrs Chauhan-Wall is going to read a story called "Handa's Surprise" to you. Click on the video to start the reading.

You can also find a large selection of books read by other members of staff at the school on our Book Reading Videos page . However please  note that the books on this page cater for children right across the Primary School age range, so some may not be suitable for children just starting school.
